But a great result starts long before you lie down under the laser. Here is exactly what to expect at every stage.
Before Your Appointment
Every new client begins with a free patch test, not a full treatment. This is a deliberate, non-negotiable step: it allows your practitioner to assess your skin tone, hair colour and sensitivity, and to calibrate the laser settings precisely for you before any course of treatment begins.
What to avoid in the 48 hours prior
- Sun exposure or sunbeds on the treatment area
- Waxing, plucking or epilating — shaving is fine, and recommended the day before
- Fake tan, deodorant or heavy moisturiser on the treatment area on the day itself

During Your Session
Sessions are quick, controlled and far more comfortable than most clients expect. You'll be given protective eyewear, the area will be cleansed, and your practitioner will pass the laser handpiece over the treatment area in slow, methodical passes. Most clients describe the sensation as a light, warm snap against the skin — mild, brief and entirely tolerable.
Session length depends on the area: underarms or upper lip can take as little as 10 minutes, while full legs or a full back may take 45–60 minutes.
Aftercare
Aftercare is straightforward, but it matters. In the days following treatment:
- Avoid direct sun exposure and always apply SPF to treated areas
- Skip hot baths, saunas and intense exercise for 24–48 hours
- Keep the area clean and avoid heavily fragranced products
Mild redness or slight follicular swelling is normal and typically settles within a few hours. Hair in the treated area will shed naturally over the following one to three weeks — this is a normal part of the process, not regrowth.
Most clients complete a course of 6–8 sessions, spaced several weeks apart, for a permanent reduction in hair growth. Your practitioner will confirm the right interval and number of sessions for your hair type and treatment area at your patch test.
